Description
Summary:Interviewed on the opening night of his company's engagement in Austin, Texas, legendary Spanish dancer José Greco describes the characteristic qualities of flamenco dancing, then reminisces about his long career. He recalls his association with La Argentinita, with whom he toured the U.S. in the 1940s, the formation of his own company in Spain, and his return to the U.S., where he performed onstage, in television, and in films until his retirement as a performer in 1974. In 1984 he recreated his company as a showcase for his son José Greco II and two daughters. Current activities include teaching at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa., and plans, funded by the National Endowment of the Arts, to revive and notate his dance works Dance of the horsemen (with Billie Mahoney as notator) and the Legend of the Petenera.
