| Summary: | Luigi was raised in Ohio, where his older brother taught him to sing and dance as a child; worked in local clubs as a teenager; went into the service in 1943; returned to Ohio in '46. Although intending to become a lawyer, instead went to Hollywood; soon after his arrival he suffered an auto accident which paralyzed one side of his body. After much hard work, he was able to resume dancing in movies; began teaching jazz in 1952; came to Broadway in 1957, performing in musicals; began teaching at the June Taylor School; now has his own school, the Luigi Jazz Center, in New York City. |
