| Summary: | The college-age female client presents with social anxiety--a problem she dates from junior high school. She has trained to be an emergency medical technician, and she is a member of a rock band (which hasn't performed yet on-stage), both of which entail exposure to other people. However, the client is fearful of evaluative situations, such as entering a neighborhood bar without someone accompanying her (because "All eyes will be on me"). Dr. Anne Marie Albano provides some psychoeducation about anxiety in general, and then leads the client through some cognitive restructuring exercises, involving imagined scenarios exposing the client to typical anxiety-provoking situations, assessing the client's somatic reactions to the images/exposures, and reviewing evidence about these situations that disconfirms associated automatic negative thoughts.
