Description
Summary:Dr. Jean Lin Chau conducts an initial psychotherapy session with a female Chinese client who has come from Macau for college and graduate study in the United States. The client presents with concerns around conflicts in her family relations and acculturation issues. Dr. Chau uses an eclectic approach that draws on psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral theory to assist the client in expressing and identifying these concerns as well as the client's affective experience around them. From an empathic, culturally sensitive perspective, the therapist opens the door to further exploration of the client's role conflicts and emotional distress, by providing education about the therapy process.
