Description
Summary:The client, a woman dealing with an abusive relationship, wants guidance on whether to seek a divorce. Dr. Stanley B. Messer and the client identified a life-long pattern of progressively worse abuse, culminating in this, her current third marriage. After a violent episode that put her in the hospital, the client obtained a restraining order against her husband and he left the house. He has recently returned after promising to attend counseling, but old behaviors have emerged, and the client is considering divorce. Dr. Messer helps the client explore how she feels about herself and why she tolerates so much abuse. He recommends that she seek therapy for herself and find a way to put her marriage on hold with the husband out of the house.
