Bound book of manuscript copies of telegraph transcriptions, containing orders from the War Department, Union Army, from the Provost General and the Secretary of War, Enrollment Bureau. Correspondence dates between Jan. 2nd 1863 and Dec. 28th 1864, circulars enumerated from 1 to 73 (with a few extra unnumbered). Various secretarial signatures of telegraph office personnel. Majority issued by Frederick Townsend, founder and Colonel of the 3rd New York Regiment. Documents his orders and efforts to support troops with supplies and men, recruiting practices including draft enforcement, appeals for efficiency, detailed information concerning regulations and command structures, budgetary concerns. The Cushing Library/Ragan Military copy contains a booksellers description and research. |
