Description
Summary:This monograph documents the entire creative process surrounding the conversion of an old military police headquarters in Braga, Portugal, into an art and culture centre 'Braga European Youth Capital 2012' by the Portuguese office of Carvalho Araújo, notable for the plant pots now covering its walls. Through an exhaustive selection of texts, conversations and images, the programme, project strategy and buildings adaptation is fully outlined from the perspective of the architects themselves. Using the concept of occupation as motif, the project explores the boundary between an abandoned existing structure and a new invader that takes over the space an intervention rather than a renovation.--
