| Summary: | An omochae, or toy picture broadside. Omochae were educational broadsides and pamplets that provided entertainment and education to young children through the use of colorfully illustrated terms for study. They appeared in number during the Kansei era (1789-1801), and remained popular through the Meiji period (1861-1912). This print includes 25 illustrations of people demonstrating the use of various utensils, from the western 'cup' to the 'hibachi' brazier, along with their accompanying kanji and hiragana pronounciations. Kanji is given to the right of the item depicted, and the pronunciations and meanings in hiragana syllables on the left.
