Acosta, a Jesuit priest and linguist serving in Mexico and Peru from 1571 to 1588, founded a printing press in Peru. In the present work he puts forth ideas on ethnology, compares Aztec and Inca civilizations and history, and provides detailed navigational advice and discussions of New World plants, minerals, and other commodities. "Dirigida a la serenissima infanta Doña Isabella Clara Eugenia de Austria." In 7 "books" (libros). Books 1-2 appeared originally in Latin under title De natura Novi Orbis libri duo, 1588-1589. Signatures: A⁸(minus A7 and A8) - 2N⁸ chi². Woodcut devices, historiated initials.
