The coat lands on poor hard-working girl Mary Smith and a maelstrom of mistaken assumptions are soon set in motion. Remember the night: Lee Leander is arrested during the Christmas holidays for shoplifting. Assistant District Attorney John Sargeant is assigned to prosecute her. As it is Christmas time he postpones the trial and arranges for her bail. Discovering that she is a fellow Hoosier from Indiana, he offers to drop her off at her mother's on his way to visit his mother. |
