| Summary: | Surveys broad ranging international trade proposals in the 107th Congress. Reviews legislation enacted in 2001, including a free trade agreement with Jordan, a bilateral trade agreement with Vietnam, and, under the North American Free Trade Agreement, conditions under which trucks from Mexico will be permitted to operate in the U.S. Describes pending legislation for 2002, including renewal of presidential "fast-track" authority for trade agreement negotiation; extension of the Andean Trade Preference Act to extend favorable treatment to imports from Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru in an effort to diminish illegal drug production; the Generalized System of Preferences; and trade adjustment assistance for firms and workers. |
