Harvey Brenner (Johns Hopkins Univ), with CRS assistance, of 1976 study evaluating the relationship between economic change and physical and mental health and criminal aggression in the U.S. This study utilizes an economic change model of pathology to analyze the impact of unemployment, business cycles, and other economic conditions on physical and mental health and illegal activity between 1950 and 1980.
Includes bibliographies (p. 31-37 and throughout) and statistical analyses (tables, p. 93-111) of the effects of economic change on indices of pathology, including mortality rates for cardiovascular-renal diseases, cirrhosis, suicide and homicide, mental hospital admissions, and rates of criminal activity and imprisonment.
