| Item Description: | Reproduction of the originals from the Burney Collection, the British Library (London). Attributed to John Dillingham. Cf. Nelson & Seccombe. Title from caption. Imprint from colophon. Imprint varies. Some issues dated according to Lady Day dating. Printers changed during 1648 as a result of Gilbert Mabbott's attempt to take over the newsbook; the attempt was unsuccessful. Publication ceased as a result of the Licensing Act of 1649, which supressed the entire licensed press from 12 Oct. 1649 until mid-1650. As one of the longest-running and most successful newsbooks, it had a number of competitors and imitators. This record subsumes all editions and variants of individual issues of this title, as recorded by Nelson & Seccombe. Pagination and signatures are continuous. Electronic resource. |
