| Item Description: | Reproduction of the originals from the Burney Collection, the British Library (London). Originally edited by Marchamont Nedham and John Hall, then by Nedham alone, and finally by John Canne; throughout the year 1651 this publication was licensed by John Milton. Milton has been described as co-editor for some issues; this is, however, disputed (cf. Williams; Shawcross). Subtitle varies from number 277 onwards (cf. Nelson & Seccombe), with later, more minor subsequent changes. Imprint from undated colophon. Colophon varies; number 7-30 printed by Matthew Simmons; Thomas Newcomb was the printer from Jan. 1651-Apr. 1660. With continuous pagination and register, but pagination is erratic; signatures and pagination begin anew with number 384. This record subsumes all editions and variants of individual issues of this title, as recorded by Nelson & Seccombe. Description based on: Numb. 1. (From Thursday, June 6. to Thursday, June 13. 1650.); title from caption. Latest issue consulted: Numb. 615. [i.e. 514] (From Thursday April 5. to Thursday April 12. 1660.). Electronic resource. |
