| Item Description: | Reproduction of the originals from the Burney Collection, the British Library (London). Begun by Michael Mills and Thomas McDonnel; the partnership ceased in 1779 and McDonnel became the sole publisher (cf. Munter). Imprint from undated colophon. Imprint varies. Price at foot of page [1]. Originally a patriot newspaper which supported the United Irishmen in the 1790s, government intimidation and prosecution persuaded McDonnel to give up his opposition to Dublin Castle; after the Union its editorial position became increasingly conservative and pro-government (cf. Inglis). Description based on: Volume I. Number 1 (Monday, April the 29th, 1771); title from caption. Latest issue consulted: Volume XXI. Numb. 24 (Friday, February 24, 1790). Electronic resource. |
