Description
Summary:Reviews controversy surrounding the Chinese exchange rate policy and its effect on U.S. economy. Discusses issues and events surrounding the yuan-dollar controversy, including actions taken by China to revalue the yuan and efforts by the IMF, the U.S., and other Governments to encourage China to revalue the yuan. Examines five central questions that frame the yuan dollar controversy and monetary and financial dilemmas which affect China's views about exchange rate policy. Identifies major options which U.S. policy-makers might consider if they want to encourage China to revalue the yuan, increasing or decreasing pressure on China, levying special tariffs on Chinese imports, referring the dollar-yuan controversy to the IMF or the World Trade Organization.
