| Summary: | Hussein is a pizza deliveryman in Tehran. Wounded in the Iraq-Iran war, he suffers from an unnamed illness for which he takes "medication." When not delivering pizza, he and his naïve, talkative friend Ali are petty thieves. Hussein is engaged to Ali's sister. His job brings him repeatedly to the doorways of Tehran's well-heeled, Westernized citizens, who treat him as though he were invisible. Hussein is upset by being treated like a second-class citizen, especially after bravely serving in the war. After being turned away by the owner of a posh jewelry story, and then treated with coldness and condescension on a return visit, Hussein decides that the humiliation is not to be borne. He might have seemed still and implacable, but he was not frozen, only waiting. |
