| Summary: | A tantalizing 80 page manuscript of travel throughout Florida, the South, Texas, Kentucky, Mississippi etc. by Mr. Yates. Most of his travel was by boat either along the coast or by river or flat boat. He notes the arrest of counterfeiters, a book auction on the way to Texas, the 'no account' towns of Vicksburg and Natchez. There were a series of trips through Ohio and Kentucky. Many of the entries are brief, recording the event but adding little detail. At times he does provide a report of life aboard the river boat he travelled on or a city or town visited. Still a stunning record of three years of travel in the wilder parts of America.--Bookseller. |
