| Summary: | In a small village, during the years after the Spanish civil war, Andreu discovers a man and boy in the wreckage of a wagon in the woods. The dying boy names a culprit: a local ghost called Pitorliua. Andreu's father and the dead man were friends, fellow trade unionists, and on the losing side. Was his death some sort of revenge, a score settling? Under suspicion, Andreu's father flees, and he is sent to live with his grandmother, aunts, and a collection of cousins, including Nuria, who had one hand blown off by a bomb. Andreu and Nuria are outcasts and misfits, paying the price for their parents' socialism, and they see intrigue and adventure around every corner. In his attempt to discover the truth about his friend, Andreu is drawn into the deceit, conspiracies, and cover-ups of the post-civil war world. |
