Andrew Wallace, father of Texas Ranger "Bigfoot" Wallace, owned and operated a fruit orchard near Lexington when he purchased a female slave and her infant son from Robert Montgomery. The bill reads, in full: "Know all men by these presents that I Robert Montgomery, of the County of Rockbridge & state of Virginia has this day Bargained, sold, & deferred unto Andrew Wallace of the County & state aforesaid One Negroe [sic] woman Named Keziah, a slave for life aged twenty six & her sucking male Child about four months old, Named Andrew for & in consideration of the sum of Six hundred Dollars in hand paid the receipt Whereof is hereby acknowledged, & I do hereby warrant the said Negroes to be sound, sane & healthy, & I do also warrant & defend the said Negroes, unto the said Wallace his Heirs or assigns against the Claim or Claims of any person or persons whatever given under my hand & seal this 6th day of September Eighteen hundred & Eighteen."
