|a The Cushing Library/Texas & Borderlands copies were acquired for articles on Texas before, during, and immediately following the Texas Revolution. Spanning the years 1835 through 1837 a sampling of the fascinating articles include: November 28, 1835: "Texas - Capture of Goliad," with a reproduced letter from Brazoria, dated October 22, 1835, giving details on action taken to procure the fort. [and:] January 16, 1836: "Texian Army Triumphant," regarding the capture of San Antonio by the Texan rebels with an additional update in the next column: "The intelligence from Texas is most favourable...St. Antonio de Bexar has at length been taken...Texas is now entirely free from Mexican troops..." [and:] April 2, 1836: "Important from Texas," reproduced letter, dated March 17 from New Orleans, reporting the beginning of the siege of the Alamo. News had yet to reach New Orleans of the Alamo's fall. [and:] April 9, 1836: "The intelligence from this country has now assumed a more definite and important character. A solemn Declaration of Independence has been made and adopted unanimously...Rumours are afloat that a negotiation is actually going on for a sale, cession or transfer of Texas to the United States..."[and:] April 16, 1836: Regarding the fall of the Alamo and the deaths of Crockett, Bowie, and Travis: "...published accounts give frightful details of the barbarities committed...[which]will no doubt produce a favourable influence in favour of the Texian cause." [and:] April 30, 1836: "Meeting in Favour of Texas," describing an address by Austin to supporters organizing on behalf of Texas with news on Santa Anna's advances. [and:] June 4, 1836: "Further Accounts from Texas of the Defeat and Capture of Santa Anna," with a copy of Houston's letter from San Jacinto declaring victory.
