Summary:This coloured atlas provides detailed information on various aspects of ancient India: society, economy, polity. Individual maps pertaining to distinct historical periods explore the kingdoms and dynasties, geopolitical orbits, cropping and vegetation patterns, minerals, industries and other economic activities. The maps cover the entire period from early beginnings of civilization to the early medieval. Based on recent excavations and research, each map deals with a historical period. Supported by a detailed description in the accompanying text, the maps address contemporary debates. The atlas covers prehistory and Stone Age Cultures, Indus Civilization, Vedic Age, Age of Buddha, Mauryan India and Gupta Age. In addition it has separate maps for ecomonic, political and cultural aspects of India for the periods 200 BC-AD300; AD300-AD500; and AD500-AD750. The book has a preface and an exhaustive index comprising the coordinates of every historical place marked in the maps.
