Description
Abstract:This report documents my intern experience with Turner Collie & Braden, Inc. during the period from August 25, 1978 until May 25, 1979. The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate that my efforts with Turner Collie & Braden Inc. satisfied the internship requirement of the Doctor of Engineering program at Texas A&M University. Objectives established for the internship included: 1. Development of expertise in the planning for airport facilities. I prepared an Airport Master Plan for northwestern Harris County, Texas. 2. Expansion of environmental engineering experience into the area of environmental planning to include preparation of an environmental study. To accomplish this objective, I contributed to the completion of the Master Plan for Sanitary Sewerage for the Northside Service Area of Houston, Texas. 3. Exposure to the day-tp-day managerial techniques utilized by a consulting engineering firm. I assisted the technical chiefs of the firm in the quality control review of a proposed expansion of the Sugarland, Texas Wastewater Treatment Plant and the Kerrville Water Treatment Pland. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend any upper level management meetings within the company. 4. Expanded professional development as an Air Force Civil Engineering Officer. I definitely developed an appreciation for the consulting engineer's point of view in his relationship with governmental agencies. 5. Increased insight into the management of a large number of engineering personnel. My time with Turner Collie & Braden Inc. was my most satisfying educational experience. The internship certainly enhanced my develpment as an Air Force Civil Engineeering Officer.
