Summary:Esteban Peicovich interviews Jorge Emilio Nedich, Gypsy and author of Leyenda Gitana. Nedich and was born in Avellaneda, Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1959. He is the only known Gypsy writer in Latin America. He learned to write at the age of 16 when his parents discontinued their lifestyle as nomads. Nedich is currently pursuing studies in Letters at the National University of Lomas de Zamora. He talks about globalization and of the universal Gypsy lifestyle. He also mentions the struggle faced by Gypsies to preserve their native language and to adapt to a new culture. Nedich explains how he situated his novel in terms of time and place. He explains the large shift among customs from different time periods. He also explains some elements of Gypsy culture. Nedich tells off his plot line and themes for Leyenda Gitana. He tells of where most Gypsies are currently situated in Argentina and explains the Gypsy nation's take on orality and literature.
