| Item Description: | Title supplied by vendor information enclosed in both boxes. Plaintiff's surname appears variously as Montes Doca and Montes d'Oca, sometimes preceded by "de". Volume 1: Encased in a brown leather folding box, Inlay type design bordering the front. Upper portion of the spine has brown text box, reading "LEGAL DOCUMENTS REGARDING STOLEN SLAVE", below reads "ORIGiNAL MANUSCRIPTS", bottom of spine reads "MEXICO 1576". Inside is another slipcase, brown stitched cloth, containing the original handwritten documents, loose leaves with tattered edges. Outside dimensions are 13.75" tall x 9.5" wide x 1.5" thick." Volume 2: Encased in a folding clamshell box, stitched in brown cloth. Spine has a black text block, gold striping on top and bottom, and reads "TRANSLATION OF LEGAL DOCUMENTS REGARDING STOLEN SLAVE OF 1576". Has a small black stain on front inside of box. Contained in the clamshell box two typescripts, the first a transcription of the manuscript in Volume 1 in the original Spanish, and the second a translation into English. Both typsecripts have a clear cover and brown binding. The English version has 39 leaves. The Spanish version contains 39 leaves, plus other reference material (letters typed on University of Arizona letterhead and photocopies of map references).
