| Summary: | Esteban Peicovich talks about the work of Paul Auster and Roberto Guini. Peicovich commemorates Juan Carlos Onetti and plays a recording of Onetti reciting his own work. Peicovich also plays a tape from a different radio show he once hosted known as Noche Abierta. In this tape Peicovich meets with María Esther Gilio and Carlos María Domínguez. Gilio was born in Montevideo, Uruguay. She worked as a lawyer and journalist from 1956 through 1972, until she sought exile in Argentina in 1987. Gilio has collaborated in the weekly paper Brecha in Montevideo. Domínguez was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1955. He began working as a writer and journalist for the magazine Crisis where he became deputy and news editor. He studied during the years of dictatorship in the study groups of Santiago Cobaldo. The authors discuss the injustice that has been done in regards to the recognition of Onetti's work. They also tell of the unfolding of his work and the ways in which it has been recognized. Peicovich reads the pretext to their work Contruccion de la noche: La vida de Juan Carlos Onetti. Gilio talks about Onetti's persona and physical characteristics, and Domínguez gives a synopsis of Onetti's early inspirations. |
