| Summary: | Esteban Peicovich quotes an anonymous Gaelic poet from the 12th century. Later in the programming Peicovich reads a poem by Patrick Galvin entitled Mensaje para el editor. He also gives brief biographical information about the life and work of Galvin. Peicovich interviews young Irish poet Peter Sirr during a morning at a cafe in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina, with the aid of translator, Jorge Fondebrider. Sirr explains the role of a poet at the end of the millennium and how poetry has remained alive by remaining outside of the public eye. He talks about Ireland's prize in language and explains the public role poets are expected to play in Ireland. He also gives examples of poets that are public though the mass media and even advertising. Sirr explains the different metric uses prominent in poetry, where they originated and how they are used today. He talks about the work of various Irish poets including W. B. Yeats, Patrick Kavanagh, and Louis MacNeice. Sirr compiled a work about contemporary Irish poetry. He chose, translated, and prologued a panorama of Irish poetry co-authored by Fondebrider and Geraldo Gambolini. |
