Summary:Esteban Peicovich interviews Bolivian writer Néstor Taboada Terán. Taboada Terán was born in La Paz, Bolivia on September 8th, 1929. He has done professional studies in graphic art in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil and of journalism in Ecuador. Taboada Terán has been Cultural Director at Oruco Technical University and the University of San Simon in Cochabamba, Bolivia. He has won national awards in literature, short story writing, and novels. Taboada Terán has funded and directored various magazines in Bolivia. Taboada Terán talks about life in the city of La Paz, Bolivia and the prevalence of violence and the social class that characterizes the area. He talks about how he identified himself as a writer before he was nine, at that age he discovered the work of Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, which created his necessity to express himself though writing. Teran talks about his first story, Claroscuro, and the influences that his early life had on that particular story and has had on him as a writer. He discusses the differences of poetic expression in differerent cultures. Works that are not discussed but Taboada Terán has published include, El precio del estano, El signo escalonado, Manchay Puytu: el amor que quiso ocultar Dios, No disparen contra el Papa, Indios en rebelion, and more, including the Bolivian encyclopedia. His works have been translated into German, French and the indigenous language Quechua.
