Summary:Esteban Peicovich interviews professor of Spanish literature Seymour Menton, from the Univeristy of California on a Saturday morning at a hotel cafe in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Menton was born on March 6, 1927 in New York City and shares a birthday with writer Gabriel Garcia Marquez. He is author of an anthology of Spanish American literature and since having retired in 1994, has been writing autobiographical short stories. Peicovich and Menton discuss and compare the amount of novelist and short story writers from various Latin American countries and measure their international success. They mention various writers and briefly discuss some of their styles, including Benito Perez Galdo, Horacio Quiroga, Juan Jose Arreola, Juan Rulfo, Carlos Fuentes, Julio Cortazar, Miguel Angel Asturias, and Truman Capote. Peicovich and Menton have a particular discussion about the successs of writer Augusto Monterroso and about the international magical realism movement that began in the 1920s and has carried on until present day.
