| Summary: | Esteban Peicovich interviews Francesc Jesús Hernàndez, a Spanish sociologist and social anthropologist, who is in Buenos Aires, attending the Buenos Aires International Book Fair. They talk about Valencia, Hernàndez' birthplace, the characteristic of the Catalan people, the Moorish influence in Valencia, the impact of globalization on the economy of Valencia and the world, and the recurring conflicts in the world through time (Israel and Palestine, ethnic cleansings). Hernàndez talks about some of the world tragedies and irresponsible scientific practices (Chernobyl, Auschwitz, Hiroshima and Guernica), the need for large companies like Dupont, GM, GE, Siemens and others to assume responsibility when their practices, products or activities affect people. He also talks about the immorality of the restrictions placed to avoid human migration (borders, laws), gender inequalities and unhuman labor practices in the world. Hernàndez talks about his recommendation to people to read again the works of great thinkers like Theodor Adorno, Max Horkheimer, Karl Marx and Friedrich Nietzsche. Finally, Hernàndez refers to the permanence of impunity as one of the worst things happening in the world. |
