Description
Summary:The King of Spain reviews a complicated probate case concerning who would administer the estate of Don Felipe Portocarrero, decedent, the first son of the (4th) Count of Monclova, an important noble family in colonial Peru. Don Felipe's daughter, Maria Josefa Portocarrero, is his sole heir; she is married to Josef Manuel de Tagle. The couple claims the property, but custody of the estate is awarded to her uncle, Don Pedro Portocarrero, the Count of Monclova's fifth son, instead. The King rules that, in the future, cases like this occurring in the colonies should be heard by the Consejo de Indias.
