| Item Description: | Lloyd Alexander (1924-2007) was the author of more than forty books for children and adults, including the beloved children's fantasy series, the Chronicles of Prydain, one of the most widely read series in the history of fantasy and the inspiration for the animated Disney film, The Black Cauldron. His books have won numerous awards, including the Newbery Medal, the Newbery Honor, and the National Book Award for Juvenile Literature. -- Macmillan Publishers. An archive of correspondence and materials from the collection of Carl Karsch. Karsch and Alexander met while working at a bank in the 1950s. They remained life-long friends and in Karsch's case, a life-time fan. The archive includes many letters, notes, greetings cards, pamphlets and programs for ceremonies involving Alexander, audio and video cassettes. Much of the material is signed and annotated by Alexander. Lloyd Alexander (1924-2007) was a prolific, acclaimed, and widely influential author of young adult fantasy novels heavily influenced by Welsh and Arthurian mythology. His best known series was "The Chronicles of Prydain." The first two books in the series were adapted into the Disney film "The Black Cauldron," while the final book in the series, "The High King," won the Newbery Medal in 1969. Among his many other honors, he won a National Book Award for "The Marvelous Misadventures of Sebastian" (1971) and an American Book Award for "Westmark" (1982). Alexander was also one of the creators of the children's literary magazine "Cricket."
