| Summary: | Communicates the complaint by D. Guillermo O-morre, chaplain of the Real Cuerpo de Guardias Walonas, that he was unable to hear the confession of the deserter, Nicolás Coutz, who was condemned to death, because he (O-morre) did not speak Polish, Coutz's language, and thus, was unable to prepare the prisoner to have a Christian death. Coutz's sentence was commuted to a long imprisonment. owever, to prevent further incidences of similar cases, the King mandates that military units admit only those who possess the languages in which there is instruction in those units, and that if anyone incurs the death penalty, execution will not be delayed beyond the term defined by ordinance under the pretext of lack of instruction in the language, or any other. |
