Summary:In response to a question concerning the treatment of an interim viceroy who may or may not have the military rank of Lieutenant General, the document states that, according to the royal decrees of 16 May and 8 August 1788, a person in such an interim position in the Americas may retain the title of "Excelencia" during his term in office, and as long as he remains in his province. Upon leaving office and his province, he is entitled only to those honors pertaining to his military rank.
