Summary:The Phantom carriage : The film tells of a drunk (Sjöström) who scoffs at the legend that anybody who dies on the strokes of midnight will be condemned to drive the coach of death for the next year.
The Image makers : a tribute to his mentor and to the film which inspired him to become a film-maker, Bergman's drama features a mesmerising performance by one of Sweden's greatest theatre actresses, Anita Björk. The drama takes as its principle theme the curse of alcoholic parents upon their offspring, which of course links it directly with The Phantom carriage.
