The story takes place in a fantasy world, where a girl befriends a baby dragon. After the little dragon is taken from her violently, she undertakes a long journey that leads her to a dramatic confrontation. Also includes the Blender files that were used to create the film, and a set of tutorials, in order to allow users to re-render the film or examine how Sintel was made.

The short film Sintel was originally released as a motion picture in 2010 in Utrecht at the Netherlands Film Festival.
DVD-video discs (NTSC and PAL versions) both include: Sintel / the Blender Foundation presents the Durian Open Movie project ; a Blender Institute production ; directed by Colin Levy ; produced by Ton Roosendaal ; screenplay by Esther Wouda ; inspired by an original concept by Martin Lodewijk.
Bonus features include: a documentary (Sintel : an open source movie); optional commentary tracks from director, writer, Durian crew, render team, rigging, animation team, music and sound team, and developers; and outtakes (DVD-video discs); Sintel in HD format, video tutorials (approximately 5 hr.), documentary (1 hr.), 4-Split, graphics, live edit, renders, galleries, script, and trailer (“Extras” DVD-ROM); files used to create the movie, includng .blend files and textures (“Data” DVD-ROM” and PAL DVD-video disc).
