When his family returned to Pakistan and Salman was forced into the strictures of a newly fundamentalist society, he created his own underground jihad: a traveling guitar club that met in private spaces, mixing Urdu love poems with Casio synthesizers and ragas with power chords. Later, he founded Junoon, which became South Asia's biggest rock band.
