Description
Summary:Sulayman Nyang analyzes the reasons behind the growth of Muslims in America by summarizing the five stages of Muslim "migration." He then discusses the various influential movements and groups that have contributed to this growth, and the subsequent effect they have had on the media, and on politicians' views of Islam. Hamza Yusuf looks at the various groupings of the immigrant and indigenous Muslim communities and the diversity within them. Hakim Archuletta elaborates on Hamza's comments, and expresses the hope that as a result of further education and discussion, interaction between non-Muslims and Muslims will improve. Ruqaiyyah Maqsood closes out the panel by sharing her experience of the growth of Islam in England. Other topics discussed are the Americanization of Muslim names, the Nation of Islam, the dar al Islam movement, and sufi orders.
