Summary:King Admeto falls gravely ill. The oracle says Admeto can be saved if another person voluntarily sacrifices his life. Admeto's wife Alcestis intends to give her life to save her husband. When Admeto miraculously recovers, he questions Alcestis until she confessions. When it is time for Alcestis to die, Admeto decides to follow her into death. The gods give them their lives as a reward for their steadfast love.
