Summary:	"Set in the Andalusian countryside, the two-act opera tells the story of a young girl (soprano) who runs away with her former fiancé, Leonardo (baritone), on her wedding day. The unnamed Bridegroom (a speaking role) follows the lovers into the forest at night and challenges Leonardo; in the ensuing duel both men are killed. The bridegroom's Mother (dramatic soprano) has had premonitions of this catastrophe ever since her husband and elder son were killed by the ex-fiancés family some years ago, and at the end of the opera she is again left alone with her bitterness"--P. 2-3 of leaflet.
