| Item Description: | Song, in thirty-seven numbered stanzas, concerning the taxes imposed by Great Britain on the American colonies and the subsequent revolution; first lines: While I relate my story, Americans give ear. Variously attributed to Peter St. John of Norwalk, Conn., and Samuel St. John of New Canaan, Conn. Based on textual references to the battle at Brandywine and Burgoyne's defeat, the poem was probably written in 1777. Use of the long "s" suggests imprint date before 1810. Text in three columns; printed area measures 38.9 x 14.2 cm. Not in Evans or Bristol. Electronic resource. |
