| Item Description: | The text is identical (except for the presentation of the Ten Commandments) with the text of the catechism found in: King's Chapel (Boston, Mass.). A liturgy, collected principally from the Book of common prayer, for the use of the First Episcopal Church in Boston; together with the Psalter, or Psalms of David (Boston : Peter Edes, 1785; Evans 18938). The Liturgy was compiled by James Freeman; the catechism therein is derived from Joseph Priestley's "Catechism for children, and young persons." Evans (entry 19517) calls for a 1786 printing, by Peter Edes, of the catechism as found in the King's Chapel Liturgy, but locates no copy. Evans' entry, based on an advertisement in the Jan. 30, 1786, issue of the Boston Gazette, may be for this edition of the catechism. Caption title. Not in Evans or Bristol. Electronic resource. |
