| Item Description: | Dated: January 1, 1765. The only known copy, held by the American Antiquarian Society, is inscribed in a contemporary hand, on recto: Vardillian composition; and on verso: Vardils poem on New Year for the news man - 1765. Possibly written by John Vardill ("Poplicola"), 1749-1811, who was a student at King's College in New York at that time. Presumably printed late in 1764 by Hugh Gaine, printer of the New-York Mercury, for distribution on or about New Year's Day.
