| Item Description: | Not by Nehemiah Strong, but in fact calculated by Andrew Beers, the calendar pages and eclipse predictions being identical with those in his Beers's almanac and ephemeris for 1797 (Hartford). Cf. Evans. Advertised in the American intelligencer, West Springfield, Nov. 8, 1796. As suggested by Evans, this almanac is spurious in purporting to be the work of Nehemiah Strong. The actual calculator was Andrew Beers. The calculations and other astronomical material on the calendar pages, and the eclipse predictions, are identical with those in Beers' almanac and ephemeris ... for 1797, by Andrew Beers (Hartford : Hudson & Goodwin), except that the lunations column in Beers' almanac has been merged with the aspects column in the present one. However, the page entitled "Variation of sun and clock," which is characteristic of Strong's almanacs, is not found in Beers, and appears to have been adapted from that in An Astronomical diary, calendar, or almanac for 1797 by Nehemiah Strong (Hartford : Elisha Babcock), most of the calculations being identical. There is no other resemblance to Strong's almanac. The Anatomy is the only illustration. Electronic resource. |
