Description
Item Description:Evans erroneously attributes the calculations, as he did those of most almanacs issued under the Bickerstaff pseudonym, to Benjamin West.
Apparently calculated by Osgood Carleton. The calculations on the calendar pages are identical with those in the corresponding columns of Carleton's almanack for 1794 (Boston : S. Hall). The eclipse predictions also contain identical calculations and though briefer, seem clearly by the same hand; and there are significantly frequent similarities in the calendar page notes. An advertisement by Carleton appears on page [18].
Evans attributes the printing to Coverly, apparently correctly. The vignette is identical with that used in his New-England callendar or almanack for 1793, of which he issued three editions under as many pseudonyms. The court pages, with some revisions, are printed from the same page forms as those in the New-England callendar.
Identical in typography and contents, except for the title page, with The Massachusetts, New-Hampshire, Rhode-Island, Connecticut, and Vermont almanack for 1794 by Abraham Weatherwise (Boston: Booksellers), which thus is clearly another issue by Coverly of the same work under a different pseudonym.
