| Item Description: | The authorship of the almanac is assigned, apparently correctly, to David Rittenhouse. In comparison with the Virginia almanac for 1775 by David Rittenhouse (Williamsburg : John Pinckney), the wording of the eclipse notes and the arrangement and content of the calendar pages differ, but the actual calculations and the astronomical notes are the same. Another edition exists with the imprint of Purdie & Dixon. That is presumably the edition advertised in the Virginia gazette, Williamsburg, Dec. 15, 1774, when the paper still carried their imprint. Their partnership expired Dec. 18 and was succeeded by that of Dixon & Hunter, whose imprint is first found on the masthead Jan. 7, 1775. The Anatomy (Reilly 1801) is the only illustration.
