Friendly Fire Society, established at Portsmouth, August, 1762 : for the reciprocal advantage of its members in the preservation of their interest, when visited by the distressing calamity, fire, that on such melancholy occasions their property might be secured, as well from abandoned thieves, as from the devouring flames.
Fire company : We, the subscribers, hereby agree to associate together as a fire company, and do hereby pledge our faith to each other, to use every lawful exertion, to preserve the property of each other from destruction by fire, and agree to observe the following rules & regulations.
