Description
Item Description:Supporting a site on the Potomac River as the permanent seat of the American government.
Signed: Potowmac. Waters of the Potowmac, Nov. 20, 1789.
Imprint supplied by Evans and supported by evidence presented by R.W.G. Vail in a letter to Douglas C. McMurtrie (cf. American Antiquarian Society correspondence file, January 1933). However, Frederick R. Goff includes this broadside among "doubtful" Georgetown imprints in his Early printing in Georgetown (Potomak), 1789-1800 (Proceedings of the American Antiquarian Society 68, 1958: 109-134) and suggests that it may have been printed in Martinsburg by Nathaniel Willis.
