Description
Item Description:Advertised in the New London gazette, Oct. 18, 1771.
Variously attributed to Clark Elliott and to Nathan Daboll. See Bates, A.C. "Checklist of Connecticut almanacs, 1709-1850." Proc. Amer. Antiq. Soc., n.s. 24 (1914): 125-129. The author's preface states, "this is the first time of my appearing before you in things of the astronomical kind ..." A similar statement is made by Daboll in the preface to his Connecticut almanack for 1773 (New London: T. Green). Elliott was the author of the Connecticut almanack for 1767, 1768, and 1770, also published by Green, but the statement could refer to his appearance under a pseudonym. It could also have been made here by Daboll for the same reason.
