| Item Description: | Evans attributed this almanac, as he did most of those issued under the Bickerstaff pseudonym, to Benjamin West. However, the calculations on the calendar pages are identical with the corresponding columns among those in Osgood Carleton's Almanack for 1796 (Boston: W.P. Blake), which devotes two pages to each month. The astronomical notes on the same pages correspond to those in Carleton's almanac, except that the latter has more of them and with frequent slight differences in the calculations here. The weather predictions on the same pages are generally parallel. Identical in typography and content, except for the title page, with An astronomical diary: or almanack, for 1796, and by A. Weatherwise (Boston: same imprint with the addition of S. Hall and J. Boyle). Advertised by E. Larkin in the Independent chronicle, Boston, Nov. 12, 1795. Edition statement transposed from foot of title page. Advertisement for books sold by Joseph Bumstead, page [24]. Electronic resource. |
